The application performs analysis and design according to the design rules for steel sections and members, as defined by Eurocode 3 (ENV 1993-1-1:1992). Sections are classified in classes 1,2,3,4 according to the chapter 5.3 and the tables 5.3.1, 5.3.2, and 5.3.3. All classes are supported for all sections, except those of angles, channels and hollow beams of class 4. The following checks are performed per section type:

* In the case of compound angles, according to the §5.9.4.1 of EC-3, they are considered as a single section, which is only tested in axial force.

(*) In the case of hot rolled or welded cross-sections Ι or Η, when necessary, web buckling is covered as per §5.6 according to the simple post-critical method §5.6.3.
(*) The automatic calculation of the buckling length according to annex E is included.
(*) The verification tests of single angle cross-sections are performed using the characteristic values of their main axes.
(*) The elastic critical moment in lateral-torsional buckling is calculated according to formula F.2 of annex F.
(*) The C1, C2 & C3 factors in lateral-torsional buckling are taken by the program as: C1=1, C2=0, C3=0.
(*) The equivalent uniform moment factors for flexural buckling (βΜ.y, βΜ.z) and for lateral-torsional buckling (βΜ.LT) per load case are automatically calculated according to Table 5.5.3 of EC-3.
(*) For the verification test for bending and axial tension §5.5.3 a computation of the lateral-torsional buckling resistance §5.5.2 takes place, with the member support conditions under consideration.

Norm – Partial safety factors

In the Norm – Partial safety factors dialog, the user can select the norm and the various safety factor values will be used during the analysis and design. The values for ENV(1993-1-1) and French norms are available, as well as a user-defined set of values.
